ST. MARYS, GA. | After six years of holding the line on property taxes, the City Council increased the property tax rate Monday night by 11 percent, from 5.4 mills to 6 mills.
Officials cited as an example a $100,000 home in St. Marys; the tax increase on that home would amount to $24.16 yearly. The tax digest in St. Marys has dropped each year for more than five years reducing the revenue coming to the city.
